Director of Public Works

The Town of Smooth Rock Falls is seeking a Director of Public Works.  This person must be a qualified, highly skilled and passionate senior management team member capable of  providing leadership and expertise in infrastructure and in our Public Works Department. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership skills to help drive our team towards the town’s strategic direction. This work opportunity will provide the successful candidate with a meaningful work experience serving our growing community.


  • A civil engineering degree or diploma. Professional designation like P.Eng or CET will be considered an asset. Eligibility for certification at the technologist level with OACETT.
  • Proven experience working with both union and non-union employee groups an asset.
  • Previous management experience in a public works and/or utilities environment, preferably 5 years managerial and supervisory experience in a municipal setting or in the private sector.
  • Possess or willing to obtain a Health and Safety Training for Supervisors certificate and Standard First Aid certificate and a CPR level HCP.
  • Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License. Obtain and maintain a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), at own expense.
  • Legally entitled to work for any employer in Canada.
  • Bilingual proficiency in both French and English is an asset.
