I have wanted to move to Northern Ontario for a very long time. When I sold my house in Windsor last year, I started looking all over the north. I located Smooth Rock Falls on a map and saw a few houses online but it was when I came to town that I realized this was the place I wanted to be. It was only when I arrived that I remembered Smooth Rock Falls from a road trip I took 41 years ago up to Fraserdale. I have always wanted to live in a place where I can build good relationships with people and enjoy a strong sense of community.
I retired 11 years ago after working in Windsor for 32 years and I officially moved to Smooth Rock Falls on June 5th, 2018. I love riding ATVS, fishing, and hunting.
Along with being the father of 3 wonderful children, my greatest accomplishment has been the creation and management of a soccer club for kids with autism and ADHD. I originally established a similar club in Windsor and wanted to do the same in Smooth Rock Falls. I am very proud to say, that I have 9 kids registered so far but there is room for more to join! I have managed to secure sponsors and the club is now fully funded due to the generous support of those sponsors. The soccer club is open to kids from Kapuskasing to Cochrane and will officially get going January 26th of 2019.
Since moving to Town, I have been to almost every Council meeting. I truly want to be engaged with the community and decided to run for Council. I feel I can bring a lot to the table. I really want to work hard and contribute to the prosperity of Smooth Rock Falls. I believe in doing things well and getting them done the first time. I don’t currently speak French but I am trying to learn. I currently sit on the Smooth Rock Falls Economic Development Committee.
I have also been helping the curling club to raise funds and have been assisting the church by trying to get a bilingual mass going once a month. I have been going for lunch at the Aging at Home and have been helping to get more people interested in their woodworking classes. I have organized a games night on Wednesdays at the Legion.
What I love most about Smooth Rock Falls are the people. They have been so welcoming and friendly! I have felt very comfortable and accepted since I have moved here. I love working with the kids and the spirit of volunteerism that is alive in Town. I am very proud to be part of the Smooth Rock Falls community!
